Born in London and educated at the Universities of Sheffield, Edinburgh and Otago, John R Morss was Senior Lecturer in International Law at Deakin Law School until his retirement in 2022 and is now an Honorary Fellow at Deakin Law School and an Adjunct Professor at the La Trobe University Law School.
